Information for people contacted in birth relative searches
Midwest Adoption Center is a not-for-profit social service agency responsible for two different programs that help individuals locate relatives from whom they were separated by foster care or adoption. Both of these programs are provided by our agency on behalf of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
It is understandable if you are surprised to receive such a letter or are concerned that our agency is legitimate and reputable. We hope that the detailed information on the program websites will help you understand how both programs work and reassure you. However, in highly personal situations such as this it is often most helpful to speak with someone. We hope that you will contact our agency so that we can explain more about why we contacted you. Please be assured that you will not be pressured into any kind of connection or contact that you do not want to have. We hope to have the opportunity to speak with you.
Our agency uses different letterheads depending on the reason we are contacting you. For more information, click on the letterhead name used on the letter you received.
